WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man injured in Winter Park on Wednesday night.

It happened at about 9:15 p.m. on Mead Avenue, near Mead Botanical Garden.

The Winter Park Police Department said that officers were called for some kind of disturbance at the man's residential neighborhood.

Winter Park Police Sgt. Garvin McComie said a 911 call came in about a woman screaming. When officers arrived, they saw a man in the front door of a house and was holding what looked like a gun, he said.

Police haven't said how many times the man was shot or how many officers fired their weapons, but no officers were injured, McComie said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

A man who claimed to be the father of the person shot said his son was shot by police and added that his son is doing OK.

Crime scene tape roped off both ends of Mead Avenue as the city's mobile command unit was seen leaving.

Any time there is an officer-involved shooting FDLE is called in to investigate.
