UPS is already planning for the busy holiday season, adding a surcharge for shipments during peak periods.

  • UPS adding fees for peak holiday delivery times
  • Fees to compensate for operational costs, company says

The Atlanta company will add 27 cents for residential deliveries from Nov. 19 to Dec. 2 and Dec. 17-23.

The fee will be 81 cents and 97 cents to overnight, second- or third-day deliveries for residential deliveries Dec. 17-23.

New fees also will be added to oversized packages during peak periods, on top of regular surcharges, as well as some international air routes.

The company says it's to help cover the cost of hiring additional workers and renting extra planes and trucks.
