The man whose body was pulled from a Central Florida lake Sunday night after he went missing has been identified.

Norman Diggs III, 33, died trying to save his wife, who struggled to stay afloat after entering Lake George from a boat ladder Sunday afternoon, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission official confirmed.

Norman Diggs went in to help Sara Diggs, 37, the FWC said. A friend in a nearby boat, Gary O'Brien, jumped in to help. He was able to get Sara Diggs to safety but couldn't reach Norman.

Crews from FWC, the Lake and Volusia County Sheriff's Offices, and the U.S. Coast Guard participated in the search for Norman Diggs' body, which was was found at about 7:30 p.m., according to investigators.

Lake George is between Ocala and Daytona Beach, on the St. Johns River.
