The Orange County Sheriff's Office dive team searched a pond near the Willow Bend Apartments Friday as they continue their search for a missing newborn they call "Baby Willow."

THE BASICS:

  • A placenta was found in the Willow Bend Apartments parking lot Monday.
  • Police arrested Susan Richardson, 30, Tuesday.
  • Richardson told police she had the baby and left the child on a doorstep — something police do not believe.

On Monday afternoon, Orlando Police were called to the Willow Bend Apartments after residents found what turned out to be afterbirth in the parking lot.

Investigators say they followed a trail of blood from the afterbirth to the front door of an apartment where 30-year-old Susan Richardson lives.

According to an arrest affidavit, investigators found more blood in Richardson’s bedroom, bathroom and laundry room. Search dogs scoured the apartment, but no additional evidence was found.

Police think Richardson abandoned the baby sometime between 10 a.m. and noon Monday. She also has claimed to investigators to have had a miscarriage.

Richardson was arrested Tuesday for aggravated child neglect. She is being held in the Orange County Jail on $50,000 bond.
