A dispatcher with the Palm Bay Police Department is accused of having a sexual relationship with an 11-year-old boy.
Investigators say it came to light with her attempted suicide and information from her husband of 19 years.
Amanda Chandler, 40, a mother of two young children ages 10 and 8, was arrested Monday night at a local hospital and charged with eight counts of capital sexual battery and five counts of lewd and lascivious molestation.
If found guilty she faces a sentence of up to life in prison because the victim is under the age of 12.
Investigators said her husband contacted them this past Saturday and said his mother-in-law forced her way into a locked bedroom and found his wife with 7-8 pill bottles on the floor.
He told them she attempted suicide telling them quote "I want to die".
Her husband went on to tell officers about her ongoing sexual relationship with an 11-year-old boy.
An arrest report details it began back in February or March at the couple's home.
Her husband told police he would sometimes catch the boy in Chandler's bed, kissing each other on the cheek and as he put it 'hanging all over her'.
"We are sickened by this news obviously. It's disgusting," says Commander John Resh of the Palm Bay Police Department.
Chandler was employed as a Palm Bay Police dispatcher for three years.
Chandler is suspended without pay with her firing in the works.
"It's all the worse when we find out one of our own has turned bad," said Resh.
Once she is medically cleared, she will be taken to the Brevard County Jail and held without bond.
Investigators say it's possible more victims are out there because Chandler was involved in local little league baseball.
