An investigation is underway after an Osceola County man fatally shot an intruder Wednesday night, deputies said.

The shooting happened around 9:43 p.m. at a home on Aladdin Court in St. Cloud.

Deputies responded to the scene in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, the homeowner said he was with his wife and a friend in the living room when they heard what sounded like someone entering the back of the home.

The homeowner retrieved a handgun and walked to the back of the home.

An unknown suspect, identified as 30-year-old Bo Alexander Garris, entered the screened-in porch area and was attempted to open the door that leads to the kitchen, deputies said.

The homeowner asked the suspect who he was and told him to leave, according to deputies.

Garris lunged at the homeowner, who fired the gun. Garris then pushed the homeowner onto a table and was on top of him, causing the homeowner to shoot a second time, deputies said.

Osceola County Fire Rescue transported Garris to St. Cloud Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

After further investigation, Osceola County detectives determined the homeowner didn't know the suspect who lived at 1995 Aladdin Court.

Garris has a criminal history, including drug, battery and trespassing charges.

The homeowner wasn't charged in the shooting, deputies said. The investigation is ongoing.
