A bank robbery suspect crashed his vehicle into a power pole as he was trying to flee from deputies Wednesday morning, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office said.

Investigators say that about 8:37 a.m., deputies were called for an alarm at the Chase Bank located on Village Oak Lane in the Heathrow area.

A man entered the bank, passed a note to a teller demanding money, and then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then went to the SunTrust parking lot next door and got into a white vehicle, deputies said.

The Sheriff’s Office said the teller provided a direction of travel for the vehicle, and two deputies in the area saw and followed it as it got onto Interstate 4 westbound at the State Road 46A entrance.

The vehicle drove down the emergency lane on I-4, exited at State Road 434 and drove westbound, deputies said.

Investigators said as the vehicle approached the intersection of Montgomery Road, it hit another vehicle, took off and then crashed into a power pole in the area of Wekiva Springs Road and Sweetwater Club Boulevard.

The suspect was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

His name has not been released.
