A popular disc jockey was stabbed and killed in a fight at a downtown Orlando nightclub.
Since word spread that Jerry Smith, also known as DJ JR died, Twitter and Facebook have been flooded with condolences.
The 28-year-old was performing at Tier Nightclub Sunday night.
Police said a fight broke out in the VIP section and that’s when Smith was stabbed in the stomach. He then stumbled out into the street.
When officers arrived they found Smith lying in the street, bleeding from his stomach.
Officers said Smith pointed to Gavin Brown, 35, and said, “he stabbed me. He did it.”
A knife was recovered from the scene. Smith was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Brown is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Police said homicide charges are pending.
Police said this is still a very active investigation with one piece of the puzzle still a mystery: what the fight was about?
For now Brown remains behind bars with no bond.
