A Volusia County man has been arrested after he beat his wife to death, police said Monday.

Christopher Haag, 38, initially called 911 and told dispatches that his wife was unresponsive.

Rose Marie Haag, 45, was already dead when detectives arrived at the Bristol Bay Condominiums, in South Daytona, on Monday.

Detectives determined that Christopher Haag beat his wife to death.

Haag was charged with second-degree murder, according to South Daytona Police Chief Ron Wright.

Haag was previously arrested in 2012 on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of domestic battery, according to Volusia County Corrections records.
