A massive early morning fire has destroyed a Volusia County home.

It happened just after 4 a.m. Saturday on Kilgore Street near LPGA Boulevard.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the home was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Volusia, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach quickly got the blaze under control.

Nineteen-year-old Jake Nehme said he wasn't home at the time of the fire, and his parents are out of the country.

Neighbors said they heard an explosion and popping sounds.

Nehme said his family owns guns.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and haven't heard any ammunition sound off in quite a while.

Neighbors said flames were shooting 20 feet into the sky.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the fire. They said it started in a corner room where fuses are located and perhaps overheated.

Nehme said he’ll be staying with his sister tonight.

He said his parents were speechless when he told them what happened.

Crews closed LPGA Boulevard between Jimmy Ann Drive and Derbyshire Road Saturday morning. The portion of road reopened around 6:40 a.m.
