ORLANDO, Fla., — A man who police investigators suspect forced a woman into her Lake Eola Heights home in downtown Orlando last month is in custody.

Michael T. Scarlett II turned himself into the Orange County Sheriff's Office at 3 a.m. Monday, according to Lt. Wanda Miglio of the police department in a news release.

Police did not say what charges, if any, he faces.

Investigators identified Scarlett, 28, as a suspect in the October 9 incident at a home on Cathcart Avenue.

Authorities said a woman was walking her dog and was on her way back inside her home when Scarlett covered her mouth and tried to push his way inside. The suspect took off when the woman screamed.

But just a mile away in Thorton Park, anxiety still lingers. Authorities are also looking for James Calixte, 36, who is suspected of sexually battering a woman near her East Jefferson Street home on October 26.

“Yeah, it scares me a little bit, but that’s why I’m here with my kids and my wife, so if something happens, I’ll be able to be there to protect them," said nearby resident Robert Marlett.

Orlando Police says it's stepped up patrols in the area, but investigators say they still need the public's help in searching for Calixte.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477). Tips can be reported anonymously.
