As Disney continues its progress on the massive transformation of EPCOT, the company has shared new details about the “Moana”-inspired attraction coming to the park.

What You Need To Know

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana — the first Disney World attraction based on the animated film — is being built in the World Nature area of the park near The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilions. The exploration trail will let visitors learn about the natural water cycle through interactive fountains and other water elements.

In a blog post Thursday, Disney shared details about the design process being used for the attraction.

“As part of our design process, Imagineers create models, mock-ups and maquette to bring our beloved characters and stories into the parks in sometimes unexpected ways,” wrote Reid Ekman, lead concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, in the post.

Disney also shared behind-the-scenes images of the progress made on Journey of Water, including the rockwork. One of the photos shows a stone structure that will be at the entrance of the attraction. On the structure will be Moana’s spiral symbol, which was also prominently featured in early concept art released by Disney.

So far, Disney has not shared when Journey of Water is expected to open. However, it teased that more information about the attraction will be shared in the “coming weeks and months.”

More details are likely to be revealed next month at D23 Expo, Disney’s three-day fan event, where a parks presentation is on the schedule. Journey of Water was first announced at the D23 Expo in 2019.
