ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – The baby white rhino born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in October has been given a name, Disney World revealed Tuesday.

The rhino’s name is Ranger in honor of wildlife rangers who protect rhinos around the world, Scott Terrell, director of animal & science operations for Disney Parks & Resorts wrote in a post on the Disney Parks Blog.

“Rhinos are the world’s second largest land animal and among the most endangered animals in the wild due to poaching,” Terrell wrote.

Ranger was born last year to mom Kendi, who was featured on the Disney+ series “Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.” In the series, viewers were able to follow her pregnancy story.

For the name reveal, Disney released a video of Ranger playing and interacting with his mom backstage.

Park visitors will be able to catch a glimpse of Ranger soon, when he makes his way onto the savanna at Kilimanjaro Safaris in the “coming weeks.”
