Matt Fernandez joined the Spectrum News 13 team in March 2018. He loves getting out in the Orlando community and working on stories that affect people every day.

He loves Central Florida’s diversity, which has allowed him to work with Venezuelan and Puerto Rican communities in Central Florida. He loves the passion people have for their culture, and he loves finding different stories as a general assignment multimedia reporter. Most importantly, he loves telling stories that matter to people in the area.

Matt has been reporting for 13 years and worked in Texas along the Rio Grande Valley before coming to Orlando. He did a lot of work at the Mexico border, including covering border violence and immigration issues. He heard many stories from people coming to the U.S.

In Central Florida, Matt has been working with the Puerto Rican community about their ongoing struggles. It has been amazing for Matt to tell the stories of passionate people living here.

Matt has thoroughly enjoyed Florida weather, since he’s a Michigan native. A relatively chilly 70 degrees is better than below freezing! Matt loves to travel and has been to Dubai, Spain, and other countries and has been to almost every U.S. state. His hobbies include hiking, playing golf, and watching sports. He’s a big believer that Florida has the best beaches. And maybe after a day at the beach, you’ll find him in Orlando’s hot spot, Rocco’s Tacos.
