David Heckard has been at Spectrum News 13 since 2017. As a meteorologist, he enjoys teaching people about the weather and helping them plan their lives.

While it’s easy to build hype with weather jargon, it’s a lot harder to deliver a weather story that’s easy to understand while remaining interesting. This is David’s goal each day.

Previously, David worked in Fort Myers. He is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society. This certification is only given to degreed meteorologists who pass an exam and undergo a review of their on-air work. David is also a member of the AMS and the National Weather Association.

The biggest story by far he’s covered was Hurricane Irma. David was on air for many hours, providing viewers hour-by-hour information about the storm and its impacts. Because there was high uncertainty with Irma, people were already very concerned. David tried to tell them what to expect as everyone watched the storm minute-by-minute.

When David isn’t predicting the weather, he and his wife enjoy spending free time at Disney parks. He loves to eat at Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. You can often find David taking in an Orlando Magic game or enjoying Lake Eola or Baldwin Park.
