Meteorologist David Heckard joined Spectrum News 13 in June 2017. You can see his “Weather on the Ones” forecast on the weekends and middays throughout the week.

David comes to News 13 from Fort Myers, where he was the weekend evening meteorologist at WZVN since 2013. There, he learned Florida’s complex weather patterns and forecasted hurricanes Hermine and Matthew. He also covered two tornadic events in the Fort Myers area.

Prior to Florida, David was the weekend and 4 p.m. meteorologist at WEHT in Evansville, Indiana from 2006-2013. In Evansville, he covered all kinds of extreme weather, from blizzards and ice storms to major tornado outbreaks. He also did field coverage for the landfall of Hurricane Isaac in 2012.

David began his television career as the weekend meteorologist at WXVT in Greenville, Mississippi.

A Midwest native, David knew he wanted to be a meteorologist at a young age. Growing up in Indiana, he remembered vividly the devastation thunderstorms and tornadoes could deliver.

He is a graduate of Purdue University and earned a bachelor of science degree in atmospheric science.

David has been designated a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist from the American Meteorological Society.

When he’s not tracking the weather, David and his wife enjoy traveling and seeing all that Central Florida has to offer. He is also an avid sports fan, rooting on his Purdue Boilermakers and Chicago Cubs.
