Air quality alerts are still in effect across Michigan, northeastern Ohio and parts of the Northeast through Saturday evening.

The smoke impacted numerous cities over the last week, bringing poor air quality and reduced visibility. While the worst of it past, ground level smoke and ozone will still be elevated across parts of the Midwest and Northeast on Saturday, prompting Air Quality Alerts to remain in effect.

Air quality index levels will remain in the unhealthy ranges for much of the areas under an alert on Saturday, but conditions are improving and will continue to do so over the weekend.

Even so, many of those under an Air Quality Alert are still under either a code yellow, orange or red.

People with respiratory illnesses, older adults and children should be mindful of the smoke over the next couple of days. It would be best to limit time outdoors until air quality returns to safer levels.
