Potholes are dangerous because they can damage your vehicles and make drivers take unnecessary risks to avoid them.

  • People worry about cracks, potholes along John Young Parkway
  • City of Orlando is responsible for that section of the parkway
  • But FDOT will take ownership of that part of the road; has no plans to repair potholes

One viewer, Lynn Sproul, has seen enough along the John Young Parkway near Interstate 4 where she decided to write in this week:

"… My car really takes a beating there. Every now and again, an attempt is made to fill them in, but it doesn't really help. Will the road be repaved anytime soon?"

There are certainly a large amount of cracks and potholes awaiting drivers on that stretch when Spectrum News 13 went out to visit last week.

Area drivers were seen doing whatever they can to avoid these hazards, which could potentially damage their cars.

The big question Sproul has is, "when will the road be repaved, removing most of these potentially dangerous obstacles?"

The best answer Spectrum News 13 could find for Sproul is that there no easy answer due to the area's unique circumstances.

Interestingly enough, the ownership of that stretch of John Young Parkway is changing hands from the City of Orlando to the Florida Department of Transportation.

This transition should take place within the next six to 12 months.

While the city has no plans in that timeframe to repave the John Young Parkway, FDOT stated for now it is still up to the city to maintain the road.

However, Spectrum News 13 found out that FDOT also has no plans to repave once it takes over.

The City of Orlando did add it encourages drivers to report potholes on its website so it can refill them in a timely manner.

Make sure you report these. The city stated once it receives a report, it will make sure that it sends a crew out there to take a look.
