A Palm Bay man is trying to slug softballs to set a world record.

  • Erikson is working to get Guinness Book of World Records out to Brevard

Todd Erickson started his quest as a long distance hitter three years ago.

Spectrum News 13 caught up with Erikson as he practiced at the Cocoa Expo complex Monday.

The official world record caught on tape is 535 feet.

Erickson said he's unofficially stroked softballs further than that record up to 576 feet. He is working to get the Guinness Book of World Records out to Brevard County this summer to document his blasts.

“Have fun, just have fun. Whatever comes out of this I'm not taking it too seriously,” Erikson said. “Just do different events, demos. It's cool.”

Erickson said he is trying to reach the 600 foot mark in the coming months.
