Sonia Mistry shot the game of her life when it mattered most, leading the Wolverines to the title of Metro Conference Champions. The junior with a 69 on the day, her best ever tournament score.
“It was shocking. It felt so good to shoot that,” said Mistry.
The captain has been playing golf since she was just a child and it shows.
“My parents would always go out, they are like a golfing family. They would just take me and sit me on the golf cart. My Dad got me little golf clubs, and I would just go out with them and hit a couple shots here and there.”
It is her love of the game, and work ethic, that makes Sonia a standout.
“Sonia is a golfer that really every instructor dreams of working with,” said Windermere Girls Golf Coach, Matt Clinger. “She works hard, she works out seven days a week doing the things that you ask her to do, and she is very good in school. She does pretty much everything a coach could ask of a player.”
The Wolverines have high hopes for this season, with dreams of being the “firsts” for their school a few more times. Sonia herself hopes to duplicate her 69 shot performance in the post-season.
“Now I have pressure on myself to shoot better in districts and regionals, and now I know what I can do, and I just want to prove to everyone that I can play better.”
The first Metro Conference Championships is in the books for Windermere High School. Could the first district, regional and state title be up next?
