The top girls basketball teams in Central Florida, as selected by the Spectrum Sports staff:
1. Lake Highland (12-4) – Highlanders knocked down 30-of-41 free throw attempts to squeak past Colonial 75-72 on Friday night.
2. Jones (12-4) – Tigers get a shot at No. 1 Lake Highland Thursday night in a game that will likely determine the top seed in 5A, District 6.
3. Leesburg (14-3) – Yellow Jackets will be busy this week with four games in five days, including matchups against Montverde Academy and Spruce Creek.
4. Bishop Moore (14-3) – Hornets are favored to run their winning streak to 10 games before Saturday’s showdown against Lake Highland at the Master’s Classic.
5. West Orange (13-4) – Based on current records, Warriors will face an above .500 team in six of their last eight games.
6. Spruce Creek (11-7) – 10 of Spruce Creek’s 18 games have been decided by single digits.
7. Colonial (9-8) – Grenadiers are undefeated in 9A, District 4 and have already locked up the top seed going into Friday’s district finale at Orlando University.
8. Ocoee (11-4) – Knights are one of the area’s hottest teams with wins in eight of their last nine games.
9. Winter Park (12-4) – Wildcats are coming up on a tough closing stretch that includes games against Spruce Creek, Jones and Lake Highland.
10. Winter Springs (16-2) – Bears, who face Lake Mary on Tuesday, have won 15 straight against Seminole County opponents.
