You’d be hard pressed to tell that Winter Park hadn’t practiced for over a week due to Hurricane Irma.

“I think we did really good getting back into the game,” Winter Park volleyball senior Lauren Musante said. “We came out very strong, and we played like we normally do.”

The Wildcats, led by setter/right side Musante picked up a win over district rival Timber Creek live on Spectrum Sports, and then followed it up with a straight sets win over Edgewater. Musante filled up the stats sheet, 36 kills, 92 assists, seven blocks, eight aces and 51 digs.

“Aw man, this kid, she does everything for us,” assistant coach Josh Hebron said. “The numbers don’t lie about it. She’s always dictating what’s going on with the tempo and who she’s setting. On the other aspect of offense she’s also terminating for us, doing a wonderful job, scoring points.”

The numbers came as quite the welcome revelation to Musante.

“I’ve never heard my stats for the week so that is kind of surprising.”

Winter Park didn’t make the playoffs last year but is having a stellar season this year, they’re 14-2 and 4-0 in their district and have their sights set high.

“I really think we can win states,” she added. “We have the potential, we have the work ethic, and we’ve had the adversity to get to that level.”

Team goals is an easy question for the senior to answer, but when it comes to what she likes more between setting and hitting.

“I really like both, it’s like the thickness of a piece of paper close, but I’d choose setting.”
