  • After consideration, officials agreed to remove the hump

  • It was only up for a few days before officials decided to mill it down to road level

Locals first raised concerns about a speed hump that was causing issues for drivers near town hall earlier in the week.

At Wednesday night’s Indialantic Town Council meeting, members unanimously voted to take out the hump only days after it was installed, citing several reasons, which included citizen complaints.

FDOT officials met with the town manager Thursday morning, and by Friday morning, it was milled down to road level.

“The lack of notice from FDOT, the town wasn’t aware it was coming when it came in, there was no signage, and it surprised everybody,” Mayor Mark McDermott said about the hump.

The portion of State Road 192 where the speed hump was located is an evacuation route, another consideration in removing it.

State officials said they are looking at the plans to decide along with the town how to move forward with pedestrian safety plans.
