ORLANDO, Fla. — Sharing opportunities that she had with others her age and beyond — that’s what a Brevard County Everyday Hero is all about.

Madhumita Subbiah started a group called Brevard STEM Outreach, which is about taking the love of science, technology, engineering, and math, and spreading it around.

What You Need To Know

  • Brevard STEM Outreach started after a lunchtime conversation with friends

  • Group wanted to share their love for STEM with as many people as possible

  • It’s about sharing the opportunities she had with others

Subbiah, 17, says she has fun doing it, and the idea came up organically with friends.

“I remember this starting as just a simple conversation we had at lunch,” Subbiah recalled. “We were all talking about how grateful we were ... we all went to the same elementary school and we all had this same passion for STEM that the elementary school gave to us.”

She works with a vice president and volunteer coordinator, to share their love for STEM with as many people as they can.

“We have so many volunteers who come and help us at all these different STEM activity sessions we do, and the summer camps we do,” Subbiah said.

Subbiah loves the volunteer support, and they love her.

“She’s so giving and compassionate and I’ve known her since fourth grade, since she came to the U.S. Getting to be her friend this whole time, she’s just so supportive,” said Shaila Venkat, vice president for Brevard STEM Outreach.
