Erica Bergeron was last seen at Palm Coast Lanes bowling alley on Thursday before her disappearance.

According to the Flagler County Sheriff's office, the dive team located a gray 2021 Toyota Camry, which Bergeron had rented, with a deceased woman inside.

Chief David Williams said that they started tracing the routes she could have taken home to the L section when they found out there was a crash on Palm Harbor Parkway.

There they found evidence that someone hit a tree and drove into the pond.

Williams added that the investigation was challenging because Bergeron had not been seen for three days.

Her family realized she was missing when she did not meet her son for plans on Sunday.

Williams advises community members to check on their loved ones if they experience a similar situation.

“Just check in on your loved ones, you know your family, you know how they are," said Cheif Williams. "If you have a family member that you typically speak with every day and you haven't heard from them in two to three days, just check on them. And if you can't get them on the phone, we've gotten very lazy with cell phones, just take a ride to their house and check on them if they live within a reasonable distance for you to do that.”

At this time, the woman inside the car has not been identified, but Bergeron's family was at the scene.

Williams said he is proud of how quickly his team located the car, especially since the retention pond was very dark and murky.

The body needs to be evaluated for injuries before they rule out foul play, but Williams said there is no threat to the community at this time.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
