BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brightline will begin 110-mph testing of its high-speed rail trains in Brevard County as early as Tuesday next week.

What You Need To Know

  • Brightline will test its high-speed trains in Brevard County next week

  • The 110-mph tests could start as early as Tuesday

  • They will cover 10 crossings over 10 miles from Suntree to Rosa L. Jones Drive in Cocoa

  • Flaggers and law enforcement will lock down the corridor when trains are passing through

The testing will go between 10 crossings in a 10-mile stretch from Suntree Boulevard up to Rosa L. Jones Drive in Cocoa.

Tacomaniacs food truck owners Chace and Jamie McMichael have been at their Suntree Boulevard location for the past five years — right near the railroad tracks.

"My father retired from the Santa Fe railroad, so as a kid, I was always around trains,” Chace says. “I love trains, which is why I set this up near the railroad tracks."

He could see plenty of rail activity.

The Brightline testing likely will involve 12 trips, including in the Suntree area, so it will take most of the day.

"In all of those crossings, we will have flaggers in place and also have law enforcement officers there, so as the train is coming through and at higher speeds, they will be locking down the corridor to allow that train to go through," says Katie Mitzner of Brightline.
