What You Need To Know

  • Brevard County police served a warrant to a local home related to fentanyl and meth
  • One occupant of the home came out to talk to police, while two others barricaded themsevles in

  • One man opened fire on police and was killed

The interaction ended with one of the people in the house dead after firing at deputies with a shotgun.

The shooting took place around 1:00 this afternoon at a home on Beverly Court just off A1A.

The sheriff said there were two men and a woman inside. One of the men came outside right away and was cooperating with the team. But the other man and woman stayed inside, and barricaded themselves for quite sometime, ignoring deputies' commands to surrender.

The sheriff says then the man who stayed in the house walked into the hallway and opened fire on them with a shotgun.

"Somebody's life was lost today, and that was their choice. Our team is all safe and sound. They're all going home to their families," Ivey told Spectrum News during a press conference. "And I make it very clear to everyone, if you point a gun at one of our team, you're going to pay the ultimate price."

We're told the woman was also hit by gunfire, and flown to a nearby hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time.

No deputies were hurt in the incident, and the sheriff says neighbors stayed in their homes and out of danger.
