TEXAS — A national anthem performer has lost his chance to perform at the Men's College World Series because he made a "Horns Down" gesture before a Women's College World Series semifinal competition between Texas and Oklahoma State on June 6.

Zach Collier, a 27-year-old teacher from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, recently posted on Facebook that his performance was canceled.

According to Collier, three hours after his performance, he was contacted by the College World Series of Omaha, Inc., informing him that the NCAA was no longer comfortable having him perform at the Men's College World Series.

In emails posted by Collier, the NCAA stated that they had "documented proof that he made offensive gestures toward a participating team" and that his performance, set for June 21, had been canceled.

When Collier inquired as to what they were referring to, they sent a photo of him facing the crowd displaying a "Horns Down" gesture, something many Aggies find normal to see from an A&M University graduate.

Collier has been performing the anthem at various sporting events for 10 years. With his experience, he told ESPN that he understood why someone would be offended by the gesture he made. He admitted that he is dissapointed to miss his chance to perform before Game 9, but he has no regrets.

An NCAA spokesperson confirmed Tuesday that Collier's appearance was canceled after the incident.

Despite his disappointment, supporters are rallying behind him. There is a petition on change.org in his honor to try and get his opportunity to perform before Game 9 back.
