KISSIMMEE, Fla. — One Central Florida neighborhood, Trafalgar Village, is lately full of fuming residents. Trafalgar Village residents have not received their mail for more than two weeks

What You Need To Know

  • Neighbors have struggled to work out a delivery agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS)

  • While USPS says people can pick up mail while they work out the problem, neighbors still haven’t successfully secured their important letters

The Trafalgar Village community in Osceola County has had problems working out an agreement with the United States Postal Service (USPS). They are desperate for help now, as neighbors await important documents like health insurance forms, green cards, prescriptions, and tax documents.

Diane Gualano, the neighborhood’s new homeowners association (HOA) president, said she has been working hard to get mail coming back into the Trafalgar Village Clubhouse.

That is how things used to work when the community developer had an agreement with the USPS to drop all mail at the Trafalgar Village Clubhouse, a central location, and allow neighborhood staff to sort it into residents’ boxes.

However, that’s all ended; the developer turned over control to the HOA last month, and since Dec. 28, there’s been no delivery. It’s beyond frustrating, Gualano said.

“All we want is mail. That’s all!” she vents.

“My husband just had open-heart surgery, and if I don’t get these insurance forms in a timely manner, then I’m at risk of having to pay that half-a-million-dollar bill myself,” Gualano said. “I can’t afford that.”

There’s a set of old mailboxes inside the clubhouse, locks all removed. Gualano said it’s the old disbursement system and that the developer took the keys when he left. Beyond that, however, she was told by USPS, they need new mailboxes and more of them. There should be one for each house, which adds to some 300 units.

“So we’re hoping 19 boxes will fit along here,” she gestures outside the clubhouse, along the sidewalk where she will soon be working on installing them.

It could cost $50,000 and take seven to 12 weeks. In the meantime, Gualano’s neighborhood will not be receiving mail. She was even told at first that all mail would be returned to sender during that time.

“So if you’re going to return to sender and it can’t be forwarded, what do we do?” Gualano asked.

Last week, it looked as though there was a short-term solution, once Spectrum News 13 started asking questions. That’s when USPS said residents could pick up their mail at the Poinciana branch.

However, Gualano tried that multiple times and still has not gotten the mail she’s awaiting.

The full USPS statement said:

The Postal Service appreciates its customers and strives to provide excellent service. We apologize for any inconvenience that Trafalgar Village customers may be experiencing. The established method of delivery for this community has been what USPS calls a centralized drop, which means all mail was delivered to the property management company’s on-site office, and they made final distribution to residents. Local postal management is aware of the current issue and is working on a solution. In the meantime, customers may pick up their mail at the Poinciana Post Office, 4774 San Remo Road, Kissimmee, FL 34758, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Customers are reminded to bring proper photo ID to make mail and package pickups.”
