MELBOURNE, Fla. – A Melbourne man is accused of beating his sister to death at their apartment complex, according to police.

On Monday, Larry Acosta called 911 and told dispatchers he found his sister, Virginia Lee Richardson, unconscious on the floor of the apartment on Post Road.
When paramedics arrived, they found Richardson with severe injuries. She was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where she died.
According to police, Acosta became combative when they tried to detain him at the apartment complex. He was taken into custody for assault on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
Police determined that Acosta had been with his sister at the time and the two had been involved in a physical fight, which led to her death.
Acosta was then charged with second-degree murder.
