MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — A would-be burglar in Brevard County is now in custody after allegedly trying to break into a business building in Merritt Island early Thursday morning.

  • Teddy King, 28, accused of trying to break into business
  • King at Brevard County Jail with $6,500 bond
  • Deputies investigating whether King is behind break-ins like recent 'grim reaper' burglary

Twenty-eight-year-old Teddy King of Merritt Island was arrested after a concerned citizen heard noises from the Brevard Travel Service on Courtenay Parkway around 5:30 a.m.

Turns out King was reportedly ripping a hole in the roof but couldn't get in. Authorities say he then moved to tear a hole through an AC unit on the side of the building.

Deputies arrived and said they caught him after a brief foot chase.

Enide Tipton owns the health food store where King tried to get inside.

“I don't know what he was searching for, but that's a small place to try and get through,” Tipton said.

King could possibly be linked to several other business break-ins, including Monday's “Grim Reaper” caper at a Melbourne business and storage building.

He's being held at Brevard County Jail on $6,500 bond.
