DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The group in charge of managing Bethune Cookman University affairs resumed its meetings amid financial and academic issues.

The university’s troubles started when they paid a contractor nearly $80 million to build new dorms and a student union. The student union building is still missing, along with $25 million.

The school’s former president Edison Jackson was ousted, and members of the Board of Trustees resigned. Trustee Belvin Perry said last Friday that it’s time for the rest of the board to go too.

Wednesday, the executive committee of the B-CU Board of Trustees met in a private meeting. The agenda included adding three additional members.

The names put forth for consideration are:

  • Rev. Geraldine McClellan
  • Dr. Albert Mosley – the former Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Bethune-Cookman University
  • Jeffrey Branch

Judge Perry opposed the nominations, saying the committee had no authority to do that.

Interim President of the University Hubert Grimes told Spectrum News a decision should be made on whether those three additional board members will be seated by the end of the week.
