NEW YORK - Legendary Broadway actress Carol Channing has died.

Multiple reports say Channing died early Tuesday morning at her home in California.

Channing was born in Seattle in 1921 and made her Broadway debut in the 1940s.

She later originated the role of Dolly Levi in the Broadway musical "Hello Dolly" in 1964, and won a Tony Award for her performance.

Her other Broadway credits include "Sugar Babies" and "Jerry's Girls."

Channing was also a frequent guest on TV game shows and variety shows in the 1970s and 80s.

Carol Channing was 97 years old.
