ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A man shot a friend dead in Altamonte Springs on Monday morning in an apparent game of horseplay, investigators say.

  • Police: Man says he accidentally shot, killed friend during horseplay
  • Man said he, friend played with "empty firearm daily," arrest report says
  • Correz Morse charged with destroying or tampering with evidence

Altamonte Springs Police say Correz Lamar Morse, 22, told authorities that he shot and killed his 39-year-old friend on accident in Morse's home on Lake Mobile Drive.

Police say in an arrest report that Morse said he and his friend often smoke marijuana and play with an "empty" firearm "daily," pointing it at each other and sometimes even pulling the trigger.

This time, though, police say Morse told them they struggled for the gun, which ultimately went off and killed his friend, later identified as Paul Maurice Brown.

Morse told police he got scared and threw the gun and a box of ammunition in a nearby lake. He is cooperating with authorities, they said.

Morse was taken to the Polk Correctional Facility in Sanford and faces charges of destroying or tampering with evidence.
