It was a packed house at Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, where about 50 community members gathered for a forum to take action against gun violence.

Community members want stricter regulations for buying guns, banning assault rifles and preventing teachers from being armed.

The informal forum gave people a chance to brainstorm about what they can do at a personal level to make a change.

The featured speaker was Central Florida Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith, the most vocal member of the Florida House during the 2018 legislative session on gun reform.

The panel-type discussion also included members of the League of Women Voters, Moms Demand Action, and 17-year-old Karly Hudson, the organizer of the Brevard March for Our Lives.

The high school student said the Parkland Shooting affected her.

“A week after the shooting we had a lockdown drill, and the first thing that I thought was oh my god, am I next?” said Melbourne High School student Karly Hudson.

The groups’ call to action is for everyone to vote and contact their legislature.

“Applying pressure and voting in November,” explained Tess Martin, president of Speak Out Brevard.

On Saturday, March 24 at noon until 3 p.m., March for Our Lives will be hosting a march over Eau Gallie Causeway.
