Lawmakers introduced and debated 15 different amendments on the House floor before putting the bill to a vote.

Thirty-four other states already have some form of Voter ID and there's been both criticism and support for the bill in North Carolina. Some say it will stop voter fraud while others call it voter suppression.

“We can make our election process more secure, we can work and advance the gold standard of everybody being able to fully exercise their right to vote,” said Rep. David Lewis, (R) Harnett County.

“If you pass this bill, and this bill passes constitutional muster from our courts, then I’m going to be out there trying to get everybody a photo ID so that we can come back and kick you out,” Rep. Mickey Michaux, (D) Durham County said.

The Senate is expected to reconvene Thursday morning.
