LEESBURG, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy was struck and killed by an SUV as he crossed State Road 44 Tuesday night.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. at S.R. 44 and Pasa Del Norte Street, Leesburg Police say.
Tyler Khargie of Leesburg was crossing the highway, not in a crosswalk, when he was hit by a westbound 2008 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 81-year-old Lawrence King of Leesburg, according to investigators.
Khargie was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where he died.
