ORLANDO, Fla. — Warmer air has returned to Central Florida, and will stick around through the weekend.

Friday night will not be as cold as recent nights with mild readings in the upper 60s. Cloud cover will steadily increase.

South-southeast winds will be breezy Saturday, helping to usher in warmer, more humid air. Highs will climb into the upper 70s to low 80s, back above the seasonal average of 76 degrees. There may be a few showers late in the day, but the better chance for rain will occur during the overnight hours

A front will slowly approach the state, keeping the steadier rain closer to the center of low pressure over north Florida. This setup will enable a continued chance of scattered showers on Sunday; highs will be increasingly warmer, in the low to mid-80s.

Plenty of clouds and an occasional shower will remain in the forecast through Monday. A better chance for rain will occur on Tuesday with a stronger cold front. This system will be responsible for a noted drop in temperatures again by the middle of next week.

Those in small craft are encouraged to use caution as south winds become a bit breezier, between 15 to 20 knots. At the beaches, the rip current risk will be low but the setup will not be conducive for using a surfboard; expect poor conditions in the surf zone.

Tropical Update

Friday is the official last day of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.

This season will finish slightly above average when looking at the number of named storms. There were 15 named storms this year.

That is down from 17 named storms in 2017, but still above the 30-year average of 12 named storms per year.

Hurricane season runs from June 1, through November 30, every year.
