KISSIMMEE, Florida — Parents usually take care of their little ones but that’s not the case for one mother-daughter duo in Kissimmee.

  • Ashley, 9, has helped her mom while she battled cancer
  • Her mom, Audrey Jolly, is now in remission
  • Ashley says she wants to be a doctor one day

Nine-year-old Ashley and her mom Audrey Jolly are inseparable.

“I feel very happy to be with my mom,” Ashley said.

A couple of years back Audrey Jolly was diagnosed with stage-four cancer, a difficult journey was made better by little Ashley, who has been there for her every step of the way.

“Ashley and I have so much fun. She’s the light of my life,” Jolly said. “She is my sunshine — my little heart.”

Ever since Ashley was 5-years-old, she’s known how to call 911 and has had her mom’s diagnosis and allergies memorized.

Just by looking at Ashley, you may not be able to tell that she’s dealing with ADHD, bipolarity and anxiety. Despite all that, she still manages to take care of her mother.

“She’ll come and ask mommy did you eat today? Did you take your medication? Mommy do you want something to eat? And I am like ‘yeah.’ She’s like, ‘What? Surprise me,’” Jolly explained. “And she goes in the kitchen and gets something. I will be cleaning or something, and she will tell me mommy go rest, go lie down. She’ll make sure I get the rest that I need.”

Jolly went through chemo and is now in remission. She’s gotten better she said thanks to Ashley.

Jolly said, “She is my hero. She is my hero. She is my hero. If something happens to me she is the first person that is going to be there.”

Jolly said Ashley is the one thing that has kept her going — her mini-nurse.

“We depend on each other, we look out for each other. She’s there for me and I am there for her,” Jolly added.

Motivated by her mother’s health condition, Ashley wants to be a doctor one day to help care for more people.
