  • FCSO spokesperson: We've had 'other incidents' with the student

The Flagler Palm Coast High School student is facing a felony charge for threatening to use a firearm in an act of violence, as well as a misdemeanor for simple assault.

Deputies say the incident happened Monday at Flagler Palm Coast High School. A school resource deputy was notified of the incident.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office says the teen got angry and got into an argument with the other student, and ended up verbally making the threat, with several witnesses nearby.

According to the arrest report, the teen said "I'll shoot you" twice, and the other student replied "do it."

The student who was allegedly threatened told deputies he feared for his life

"(We), just like most agencies, are taking it very seriously. So any talk of threats at our schools -- we're taking very seriously and investigating them all," said Chief Steve Brandt with the Sheriff's Office.

Brandt added, "We have had other incidents with (the accused student) in the past regarding threats, and we have investigated them. He has been on our radar since last school year. We have made multiple contacts with him in several interviews."

He says this serves as a reminder that this school year, after kids were shot to death at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland last year, threats will not be tolerated.

"The days of just throwing out an idle threat and expecting no repercussions -- those days are over. If you're going to say it, we're going to take action," Brandt said.

According to the arrest report, there are weapons in his home, but they are kept secured in a safe.

The Department of Juvenile Justice will decide what happens next with his case.
