OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – For this week's Traffic Inbox, our travels take us to The Loop, a busy shopping center in the Kissimmee area.

  • Traffic congestion on Thacker Avenue near The Loop
  • Viewer says conditions are dangerous during peak times
  • Officials are examining the traffic signals

John Glotfelty writes in this week that he is having problems traveling on Thacker Avenue when trying to get past John Young Parkway. He says traffic conditions are dangerous there and have only gotten worse in the last year.

Glotfelty is talking specifically about exiting The Loop on eastbound Thacker Avenue at John Young Parkway. The two far left lanes are left-turn-only lanes. The next lane over is straight only, and the far right lane is straight only.

The big concern is that the two left turn lanes get too full.  That causes traffic on Thacker Avenue to back up, especially during peak times.

The congestion also causes drivers to creep up in the straight only lane only to cut over to turn left causing dangerous traffic concerns including near-misses.

Osceola County government maintains that specific intersection, and after we inquired about the intersection, it sent this statement:

"Our signal timing experts are examining the intersection and reviewing several possible scenarios to relieve congestion on N. Thacker Avenue and John Young Parkway, including the installation of new directional signal heads and the potential expansion of turn lanes."

So help could be on the way soon.

Thanks for your question John Glotfelty!
