ORLANDO, Florida -- Orange Avenue in downtown Orlando is known for its southbound congestion, risky driving maneuvers and frustrated drivers.

  • Soulthbound Orange Avenue known for congestion
  • News 13 viewer offers up a solution to help with traffic
  • Orlando officials say they are discussing the suggestion

This week, we take a look at one viewer’s suggestion about how to temporarily fix some of the congestion while I-4 Ultimate road work continues.

The viewer thinks that he can double the number of cars able to get onto Anderson Street to head to State Road 408.

The solution?

He thinks that the City should block off the far left lane of southbound Orange Avenue, just south of Anderson Street. That would then force the left lane to turn left onto Anderson Street.  Then the City could make the center lane an optional left turn or straight lane.

Our viewer pointed out that this change could be temporary as he understands the amount of road work that currently affects all of downtown Orlando amidst I-4 Ultimate construction.

The City of Orlando received our inquiry and said that the transportation team has gotten together and discussed this suggestion.  However, there is a slight problem.  The team has to wait until some of the temporary lane closures are removed, particularly on Orange Avenue south of Anderson Street and the third lane on Anderson Street underneath State Road 408.  When that happens, they can do a proper study on the suggestion for the lane assignments.

So, no resolution to that yet, but the City has taken the suggestion seriously.

Who knows, the viewer's suggestion might end up becoming the actual traffic pattern on Orange Avenue. So stay tuned.
