ORLANDO, Fla. — Democrat attorney Nikki Fried is running to be Florida’s next Commissioner of Agriculture.

  • Fried noted for her pro-medical marijuana platform

She will run against Republican State Representative Matt Caldwell in the general election this November to replace current commissioner Adam Putnam.

The Florida native and attorney is a self-prescribed activist. Fried has been a vocal advocate for medical marijuana and said she wants to help expand access to it.

In August, Wells Fargo closed Fried's campaign account with the bank due to her pro-pot platform. In response, she said it was a violation of her first amendment right to free speech.

But Fried told Political Connections that ultimately, she wants to make sure the people of Florida "finally come first."

"The state of Florida is ready for something different, ready for somebody who's going to come in and balance our environment, balance the needs of the state of Florida ... I'm somebody who's going to think outside the box with new ideas new initiatives," she said.
