ORLANDO, Fla. -- Troopers have reopened Florida's Turnpike at Kirkman Road after a person climbed a fence on the overpass.

  • Man climbs over Kirkman Road overpass fence at turnpike
  • Troopers shut down Florida's Turnpike in both directions
  • Semis parked under overpass to prevent man from falling far

Southbound Kirkman was also shut down at Conroy Road. Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions.

All the roads are back open, but expect heavy delays as traffic moves through.

The man climbed a fence on Kirkman Road over the Turnpike, Orlando Police said.

Semi trucks lined up and parked underneath the overpass as police negotiators were talking with the man. The idea was that if the man were to fall, the trucks and trailers may prevent him from being seriously hurt.
