DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. -- A 23-year-old man is accused of sexually battering a 14-year-old girl at a Daytona Beach Shores hotel on Saturday.

Nelson Hernandez-Garcia, of El Salvador was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a child over 12.

The teen told police that Hernandez-Garcia followed her into an elevator at the El Caribe Resort and groped her.

According to a police report, Hernandez-Garcia followed the girl to her room on the fourth floor. The girl told police he then forced his way into her room, removed her clothes and raped her.

Hernandez-Garcia then put his number into the girl's phone before leaving the room, a police report stated. The girl told investigators that Hernandez-Garcia called her multiple times afterward. She said she sent him a text message stating that she was 14 years old and that he should stop contacting her.

An investigator posing as the girl texted Hernandez-Garcia and asked to meet him on the pool deck.

Hernandez-Garcia told investigators he saw the girl at the pool and the two "exchanged eye contact and smiles." He added that he thought the two liked each other and that it was "OK to follow her."

Police said surveillance video shows Hernandez-Garcia following the girl from the pool area.
