ORLANDO, Fla. -- A deadly exchange of gunfire just two miles from UCF has law enforcement in pursuit of two people they say are armed and dangerous.

The incident began at about 1 p.m. Thursday on Challenger Parkway, when a white Nissan Altima and a dark-colored Jeep SUV were thought to be in a chase, and shots rang out, Orange County Sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Watrel said.

Moments later, the Jeep SUV crashed head-on into what deputies say was an unrelated vehicle on Alafaya Trail, deputies said.

Orange County Fire Rescue, Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Oviedo Police and Orange County Sheriff's deputies responded to the RaceTrac at 1819 N. Alafaya Trail, which is just north of East Colonial Drive and south of UCF.

A man thought to be in his 30s riding in the Jeep SUV was shot and taken to Florida Hospital East, where he was pronounced dead.

An FHP trooper witnessed the chase and captured the other person in the SUV as he ran. The man, thought to be in his mid-20s, was being questioned by officers and is cooperating, deputies said.

Law enforcement agencies are looking for a white, four-door Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows and bullet holes on the driver's side.

"We are still looking and actively seeking that white Altima with two suspects inside believed to be armed and dangerous," Watrel said.

Roadways in the UCF area were closed for hours as officers searched for the Altima.
