CLERMONT, Fla. -- A 9-month-old boy who was found unresponsive Tuesday afternoon at a Lake County day care center has died, according to authorities.

  • 9-month-old boy found unresponsive at day care dies
  • CPR performed on baby until Lake County EMS arrived
  • He was to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where he died

A worker for the residential day care at 14109 Summerset Court, took the unconscious baby to the Clermont Care Center at 15701 State Road 50.

The day care worker took the baby to an urgent care because it was the closest place to go. Lake County Sheriff's deputies said in a news release that the urgent care was in walking distance of the residential day care, which, according to records, goes by Dodd Family Daycare.

Medical personnel performed CPR on the baby until county EMS took him to South Lake Hospital. He was then flown to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, where he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, the Sheriff's Office said.

He was identified Thursday as Zachary Jackson.

"Anytime there's a death, especially involving a 9-month-old, you want to figure out the why and make sure something like this doesn't happen again," Sheriff's Sgt. Fred Jones said.

There were other children at the day care, authorities said, who were conducting interviews Thursday.

The Department of Children and Families says it has issued an order to cease further operations at the day care. According to a statement, DCF has also opened a child death investigation and will be conducting a thorough review.

Authorities said the day care was licensed.

We've reached out to the day care but haven't heard back.
