The storms were strong on the coast Tuesday.

In Suntree, a lightning strike inited a small fire at a home on Cedar Hill Avenue, Brevard Fire Rescue said. The home's roof already had a tarp, and there were no injuries, firefighters said.

Another home was struck by lighting in Melbourne on Thyme Leaf Court, sparking a fire in the roof.

With southwest winds, the Gulf coast sea breeze quickly set up and sparked showers and storms early that moved east through the afternoon.

The pattern for scattered afternoon storms will continue for the next few days as temperatures stay hot and humid.

Expect mostly cloudy skies overnight as temperatures fall into the mid-70s.

The heat sticks around as high temps remain in the low 90s. The chances of scattered PM storms will continue onto Wednesday.

The surfcast will be poor Wednesday with wave heights at 1-2 feet. The rip current threat has been downgraded to moderate for Wednesday, but it is always best to swim close to a lifeguard.

The UV index remains high, so don’t forget to reapply the sunscreen. The sea surface temps remain refreshing in the mid-80s.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue into Thursday.

The warmth will continue as well with highs in the low 90s. Rain chances back off a bit as we approach the weekend as dry air slips back into our atmosphere. However, with lower rain chances, high temperatures will quickly warm up into the low 90s.

Tropical Update

The tropics remain quiet as there is no new development expected for the next five days.
