SILVER SPRINGS SHORES, Fla. -- A person's body was discovered after firefighters battled a house fire in Marion County on Tuesday night, according to officials.

  • Male found dead; no additional information released
  • Cause of fire being investigated; could take weeks

At around 9:39 p.m., firefighters with the Marion County Fire Rescue were called to a home on 10 Brooke Lane in Silver Springs Shores to discover a house fire, explained James Lucas, the public information officer with the Marion County Fire Rescue, to Spectrum News 13 in an email.

While "firefighters worked feverously to beat back the blaze," described Lucas, where flames reached from the floor to the ceiling through the left side of the home's bedrooms, rescue crews found a male dead at around 9:50 p.m.

Lucas did not provide any information on the person who died.

And the Marion County Sheriff's Office has not yet returned a message from Spectrum News 13 seeking additional information about the male.

However, Lucas did state that a death investigation is being handled by the Sheriff's Office's Major Crimes Division.
