THE VILLAGES, Fla. -- An armed man is in custody after an 11-hour standoff in The Villages.

  • Deputies: Man barricaded himself in girlfriend's parents' home
  • Brian Davis of Oxford area is accused of an armed robbery
  • Davis led deputies on chase into Lake County, where he was arrested

Sumter County deputies say it all started when Brian Davis robbed the manager of the Belle Glade Country Club, then ran to his girlfriend's parents' house in the Village of La Belle, where he barricaded himself at about 1 a.m.

Authorities say Davis then got into a car in the garage and backed into the garage door and sped away, hitting stop sticks.

Deputies opened fire on the car, but they said Davis kept driving and led them on a chase that ended in Lake County.

Davis wasn't hit by the gunfire, and authorities weren't sure whether he had the gun on him when he was arrested.

Davis is his early 30s, from the Oxford area and has a lengthy criminal record, investigators said.

He will face a judge Wednesday morning at Sumter County Jail.
