NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- The New Braunfels Fire Department on Friday warned crews are cleaning up after a hydraulic fuel spill, a portion of which got into the Comal River.

The department reported that early Friday afternoon a railroad work crew working at the rail bridge above Texas Tubes on the Comal River ruptured a hydraulic line, resulting in the spill of about 30 gallons.

Boats with booms have been deployed to clean the spill from the river.

Hinman Island Drive was closed Friday and tubing has been suspended in the area to expedite cleanup. Park rangers are notifying visitors to the river at Hinman Island and Prince Solms Park.

The department said the situation will be assessed early Saturday morning and pending a positive outcome a full opening of the river is anticipated.
